Bojear la isla implica pensar y escribir sobre la literatura y la realidad de nuestro mundo en sus aislamientos e interconexiones.

Pensar (en) los intersticios: 10 años después: “Colonialidad del poder, cultura y conocimiento en América Latina” (Aníbal Quijano) y el estudio de Manuel del Socorro Rodríguez (1758-1819)
Pensar (en) los intersticios, tal como lo hiciera Teorías sin disciplina: Latinoamericanismo, poscolonialismo y globalización en debate (1998) -antología con la que compartía a Santiago Castro-Gómez como editor, con Carmen Millán de Benavides y Oscar Guardiola-Rivera en Pensar…, y con Eduardo Mendieta en Teorías…– pero con menor recepción e impacto de citas quizás, conmovió los cimientos del aparato académico latinoamericano, especialmente en el ámbito nacional de las ciencias sociales y las humanidades, aunque con un efecto de baja intensidad que sólo muy de gota en gota ha venido permeando los programas académicos en nuestras universidades, con mayor resistencia en las carreras de estudios literarios, más reacias si se quiere a los efectos de este reciclaje teórico que se ha extendido como un oleaje global.
Es sólo una anécdota que no modifica el estado general de lo que considero falta de diálogo con las teorías contemporáneas, lo que provoca la formación de un egresado que sale al mundo “real” de la docencia y de la crítica con un desfasaje “oficial” de aproximadamente 40 años. A pesar de los arietes teórico-críticos con que ha sido cercada la ciudad letrada hispanoamericana, desde posiciones impulsadas por: el retorno de profesores formados en los EE. UU. básicamente, en un ambiente de mucha presencia culturalista; las corrientes globales de pensamiento exportadas desde la academia euronorteamericana en forma de bases de datos, revistas académicas y otros andamiajes; así como por nuevas prácticas emprendidas por recientes promociones de profesores-críticos profesionales. Podría hablarse, como refiere John Beverley de un “giro neoconservador de la crítica literaria y cultural latinoamericana” que tendría como una de sus características distintivas:
